News has come out of Philadelphia today that the Eagles have released 2011 second round draft pick Jaiquawn Jarrett.  The release of Jarrett makes room for the Eagles to sign wide receiver Mardy Gilyard.  Gilyard played well for the Eagles throughout the preseason, but was released during final cuts.

After having Jeremy Maclin (hip) and Jason Avant (wrist) suffer injuries in the Cleveland game and Riley Cooper (collarbone) already being sidelined, the Eagles needed to add a receiver.  Gilyard was a logical choice as he already knows the offense and will be ready to contribute immediately.  Gilyard primarily worked with Nick Foles in the preseason, but he should fit right with Michael Vick.  Who knows, maybe Foles will end up seeing some snaps.

Jarrett's brief career comes to a close in Philadelphia.  The safety never seemed to excel for the Eagles who had such high hopes for their 2011 second round pick.  Jarrett was demoted to third string after the first preseason game.  He did start to play better after the demotion, but poor play on special teams in Cleveland and injuries to the receivers proved to be his undoing.
