Philadelphia Eagles Cut Chas Henry, Re-sign Mat McBriar

On Tuesday afternoon the Philadelphia Eagles announced that they have cut second-year punter Chas Henry. In addition, the team has signed Mat McBriar again after cutting him after the preseason. McBriar has been signed to a two-year contract, according to the team.

During training camp this past summer, bother punters were battling it out for a spot on the roster for the 2012 season. While Henry originally won the job, the team has decided that McBriar will be able to do a better job at this point. So far through three games, Henry had 16 punts with a net average of 38 yards. As a rookie, Henry had a 37.5 net punt average. In addition, Henry has also had two punts downed within the 20-yard line this season.

McBriar is now in his ninth season as a punter in the NFL, spending the first eight seasons of his career as a Dallas Cowboy. After a down year in 2011, the Cowboys did not re-sign McBriar after averaging only 36 net yards on each punt.
