Sunday afternoon in Tampa Bay, the Buccaneers were having their 10th anniversary of winning the Super Bowl as they faced off against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, the Eagles were the ones that got the last laugh in this game as rookie quarterback Nick Foles led the Eagles down the field twice in the second half of the fourth quarter to give the team a 23-21 victory. The win was the team's first since a September 30th win over the New York Giants.
With two seconds left on the clock, the Eagles were down five points and at the one yard-line. Foles had just thrown a 22 yard pass over the middle to Jason Avant to put the Eagles in legitimate position to win. The final play of the game was a Foles rollout to the right side, hitting a sliding Jeremy Maclin in the endzone for the touchdown, and the win.
Foles ended the day with 32 completions on 51 attempts and 381 yards passing. He also threw for two touchdowns while running one in from the 10-yard line in the first quarter of the game. Tampa Bay was able to hold the Eagles run game in check as rookie Bryce Brown only had six yards on 12 attempts, but with the aerial attack it did not matter. Maclin had a team-high nine receptions, 104 yards and one touchdown receiving while Jason Avant led the team in receiving yards with 133 on seven receptions. After Brent Celek left the game early in the first quarter with a concussion, Clay Harbor filled in nicely as he had six receptions for 52 yards and one touchdown.
The Eagles defense looked solid as a unit in the first half, as Tampa Bay was unable to put any points on the board. However, the Buccaneers found a bit of a groove in the second half when they were able to put up 21 unanswered points. Rookie running back Doug Martin ended the game with 128 rushing yards on 28 attempts while Vincent Jackson led the team in receptions and receiving yards with six receptions and 131 yards and one touchdown.
Philadelphia improves to 4-9 on the season with the win, while Tampa Bay falls to 6-7 in the midst of a three game losing streak. The Eagles are back to work on Thursday night as they welcome the Cincinnati Bengals to Lincoln Financial Field.
